It is my great pleasure to announce that the ninth season of Roundabout Underground will begin with the world premiere of Ugly Lies the Bone by Lindsey Ferrentino, under the direction of Patricia McGregor. The production will begin previews on September 10, 2015 at the Black Box Theatre and marks the tenth premiere we’ve produced in that space. The play was first heard at Roundabout as part of the Underground Reading Series in February 2014.
Ugly Lies the Bone is the story of female soldier Jess, who returns from war with serious injuries. As she faces the decay of her own body, Jess also must deal with the decay of her Florida hometown, which has been in a tailspin ever since NASA laid off huge numbers of locals. Using virtual reality video game therapy, Jess works against the odds to restore her relationships, her home, and all that she lost along the way.
Lindsey is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in playwriting at the Yale School of Drama, having already earned an MFA from Hunter College. Her work has been developed at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Fordham University, Premiere Stages, Florida Studio Theater, Atlantic Theater, and several others. She was recently granted the 2015 Emerging Writer’s commission from South Coast Repertory.
Patricia recently directed the New York premiere of Brownsville Song: B-Side for Tray at LCT3 and is currently working on the world premiere of Will Power’s Stagger Lee at the Dallas Theatre Center. She directed the acclaimed production of Hurt Village at Signature Theatre Center and founded the company Angela’s Pulse with her sister, choreographer Paloma McGregor.
I am so happy to be bringing both Lindsey and Patricia into the Roundabout family and to be introducing this play and this playwright to New York audiences.
