Breaking News from Todd Haimes: The Tin Pan Alley Rag

Posted on: April 2nd, 2009 by Todd Haimes

I am happy to (finally) announce our ninth and final production of the 2008-2009 season. Following <em>Distracted at the Laura Pels Theatre will be the New York premiere of a new musical, The Tin Pan Alley Rag.

The Tin Pan Alley Rag is written by Mark Saltzman (A, My Name is Alice), and features the music of Irving Berlin and Scott Joplin. The production will be helmed by director Stafford Arima, choreographer Liza Gennaro and musical director Michael Patrick Walker.

The score includes classics such as Berlin’s “I Love a Piano,” “Play a Simple Melody” and “Alexander’s Ragtime Band,” as well as Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag” and “The Entertainer.”

Visit our The Tin Pan Alley Rag microsite for more about this fantastic production.

As you may know, we have been involved in the development of this piece for almost two years, and I am thrilled that it will now mark our first-ever musical production at the Pels.
